PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Progress
Apartments is a low-income permanent housing program
that is 10 units of rental housing for persons with
a mental disability. This program is designed specifically
for unsupervised living by individuals with mental illness
who are capable of living independently in the community.
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer,
the Resident Manager is responsible for all phases of
the ongoing operation of the apartment building.
Duties include, but are not limited to: collects and
deposits rent payments; prepares and submits monthly
rent roll; submits deposit slips to bookkeeper; issues
late rent payment notices; keeps regular office hours;
maintains petty cash fund; performs annual tenant income
re-certifications; maintains tenant and unit files;
performs building janitorial work; inspects property
daily; performs minor repairs as necessary; prepares
and submits work orders; performs and maintains a regularly
scheduled pest control program; assesses and acts accordingly
in emergency situations; assists and/or develops a Tenant
Relations Program; organizes, maintains and controls
community bulletin board; serves as a representative
to local neighborhood groups/associations; monitors
common areas for proper use; orderliness and security;
reports all problems to supervisor; prepares monthly
status report to supervisor; performs other related
duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work comfortably
with persons with mental illness; must be bondable;
knowledge and ability to perform minor maintenance repairs;
previous experience as a resident manager is preferred;
previous experience in a HUD program is specifically
preferred. Must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity,
good judgment, and emotional stability.

Relief Counselor - Union Position
Title: Relief Counselor

Salary: $11.44 hour
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the
supervision of the Program Director or the Assistant
Director, Relief Counselors provide support and assistance
to clients at adult psychiatric transitional and acute
residential treatment programs. Generally, Relief Counselors
advocate for and respond to clients' treatment and rehabilitation
needs. Specific functions are outlined in the job description.
Duties include: performance of intake interviews; group,
individual, and family counseling; treatment plan development
and implementation; coordination of activities; discharge
planning; and developing and maintaining contact with
clients' therapists and related treatment programs.
In addition, the counselor is required to maintain clinical
records and to perform minor household repair and cleaning
tasks. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible
schedule, including some weekend and overnight shifts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience
in residential treatment and/or knowledge of social
rehabilitation is preferred, but not required. Must
be able to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing. Must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity,
good judgment and emotional stability. Must be able
to negotiate several flights of stairs during each work
shift.
Before commencement of employment, must submit to a
fingerprint check and health screening exam in order
to obtain clearance from the State Dept. of Social Services,
Community Care Licensing. Employment is contingent upon
meeting the above minimum qualifications.

Progress Foundation is a non-profit agency dedicated
to providing alternative community treatment options
to seriously mentally disabled individuals. We have
been doing this work since 1969. In addition to providing
direct treatment services, we have taught many others
how our non-traditional services can be replicated in
other communities.
